Farewell

Starting a blog seemed like such a natural thing for me to do. There are very few of my friends who were surprised that I had done so and even fewer who were surprised by what I wrote. The joy and pride that I feel with what I have accomplished with Knightly Notes cannot be described in words but since I often contradicted myself in my posts, I will attempt to do so below.

I posted my first article on the 14th October 2010 and since then have had 12 792 visitors to my site with the majority of visitors obviously from South Africa followed closely by The United States, assuming that being because of the number of posts related to comics, cartoons and the like. I have had over a 1000 hits from China, which, censorship aside, is disappointing considering the billion plus potential followers there. In any event, there is no way I ever expected to achieve the readership I did, and although I understand that it is not that considerable, I think my blog was more just me needing to be me, with any incidental readers just being brought along for the ride

If you had not figured it out from the title or the first two paragraphs, this is my way of ending this chapter in my life. My usual geeky humour is obviously being hampered by the emotional gravitas of this act so I will be brief, and apparently unfunny. Due to personal circumstances, I will be unable to continue contributing to Knightly Notes and rather than leave it out there as yet another unconcluded blog, I decided that I owed it to my 16 followers to at least attempt to conclude it.

There have only been highlights in this adventure and it has led to so many more new experiences. I got to be “Tech Writer – Fayaz”, Thought-Leader Contributor – Fayaz and my favourite, “Food Reviewer – Fayaz”. Food Reviewer – Fayaz was the best because it combined three of my favourite things in one activity, eating, writing and of course, getting paid!

It is my intention to leave the blog on the Internet, I will just not be contributing any more posts. It is very likely, that I will still also reply to any comments posted.  Thanks for all of you who have contributed and supported this adventure and finally, to the CIA officer assigned to reading my posts, I hope I made you laugh and that you will support any future VISA application I make.

The Lighter Side of success. Avengers assemble!

Sufficient time has passed to really start talking about the avengers without spoiling the experience for people who may have not watched the movie as yet. If you have not watched 'The Avengers' yet, stop wasting time on the internet and go out and buy a damn ticket!

Us geeks are primarily responsible for 3 things
  • Supporting movies that smash box office records (in the most obvious way, by watching them a few times on circuit before downloading the BluRay rip off the internet)
  • Making the world go round, and
  • making the lives of office workers slightly more bearable by creating jokes that get forwarded virally via e-mail
Since the Avengers smashed box office records, and the world was still spinning, I thought it appropriate to collate some of the best Avengers jokes for my readers. A deeper blog on the Freudian themes of the movie (titled: "Loki got daddy issues") and why the Black Widow was a better casting choice than Wasp (titled: Wasp = small; Scarlett Johansen = BIG) will follow in due course. Where to begin:

Robin, eh, Maria Hill is such an awesome character in the comics and I hope that Marvel introduced her here, so that she may play a bigger part in Iron Man 3.

My 3 funniest scenes in the movie are
  • When Loki gets Thumped by Hulk
  • When Thor gets sucker punched by Hulk, and
  • when Thor admits that Loki is in fact adopted.

The majority of the jokes have been at the expense of Black Widow for her portrayal of the role, often referred to in industry terms as "eye candy". Those of you who honestly believed that the sight of Black Widow reloading her pistol in that panoramic shot of the Avengers preparing for battle in the streets of New York, instilled fear in the approaching alien army would be pleased to hear that Marvel are considering a Black Widow movie. The movie may focus on her Origins story but I personally think it would be a mistake. I have been know (rarely) to be wrong (predicted success of Green Lantern). The funniest joke in this genre (that is family appropriate) is this one that depicts what the movie would have looked like if all the Avengers posed like the female Avenger.

Of course, jokes were not only directed at characters in the Avengers but Spidey got a fair dose, as did, the Dark Knight (Fun Fact: The only reason Spidey did not participate in the action was that the rights to spiderman are owned by Sony and the movie was made by Marvel/ Disney)

Well as Boromir knows only too well...

Those of us who knew, and those who needed to make the necessary wardrobe adjustments before getting up, would have seen the teaser in the end credits of the potential villain in Avengers 2. Non geeks, let me introduce, Thanos. Thanos is an insanely powerful alien and would make an amazing villain but I suspect that we will be seeing him as the villain in Thor 2. (Fun fact: When Thanos smirks at The Other's remark about how launching another attack on earth would be like courting death, it was because he loves Death. 'Loves', not in the normal sadistic evil villain kinda way but since Death is personified as a lady in the Marvel universe, more in a " wanna catch a movie sometime and then come back to my place" kinda way.

I think the Avengers have lived up to expectation, which is saying a lot, cos that was a healthy dose of expectation. I will update this post with more funnies/ comments so if you feel I may have missed some of the better ones, please share.

Until the Dark Knight Rises, Make mine Marvel!
